Yet Jessica Hecht and John Ortiz deserve praise for crafting a believable New York atmosphere, despite Goold’s inclination toward Broadway polish. As the head teller, Hecht delivers a New York accent that feels genuine and worn-in. More importantly, her demeanor is recognizably local, embodying the Brooklyn woman who can be courteous but won’t tolerate nonsense. Though consistently proper and feminine, she confronts both Sonny and Sal. Even when their threat level seems low, her performance conveys Colleen’s clear understanding of the danger these two clowns represent.
